Various activities to celebrate 250th birthday of poet Nguyen Du

In Nghi Xuan District, Ha Tinh Provincial People’s Committee mobilized socialized source of 40 billions to build construction such as cultural house of Nguyen Du, a welcoming gate to tourists.

Some activities of culture and arts aims to honour some cultural values of Nguyen Du and the Tale of “Kieu” based on some cultural forms in Nghi Xuan land.

The contest to discover life and career of Nguyen Du and the Tale of “Kieu” was carefully invested to attract the crowd of the audience.

Manager of Center for Culture and Sports in Nghi Xuan District Tran Thi Canh said that the Tale of “Kieu” has exixsted into cultural life of Nghi Xuan people. Introducing and performign the Tale of “Kieu” helps pupil quickly access to lessons through the Tale of “Kieu.

Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Education and Training also organized a seminar “Nguyen Du – great man of the world and teaching the Tale of “Kieu” in high school” to attract 100 discussions of participants.

Ealier, Ha Tinh Province organized contest “Discovering life and career of Nguyen Du and the Tale of Kieu” with participation fo over 200 thousands of people.

To the Vietnamese people themselves, the Tale of Kieu is much more that just a glorious heirloom from their literary past. It has become a kind of continuing emotional laboratory in which all the great and timeless issues of personal morality and political obligation are tested and resolved (or left unresolved) for each new generation. Western readers who are curious about Viet Nam and the Vietnamese may well gain more eal wisdom from cultivating a discriminating appreciation of this poem than they will from reading the entire library of scholarly and journalistic writings upon modern Viet Nam which has accumulated in the West in the past two decades.
