Though the market is just 30km from the center of Hanoi, it still preserves the characteristics of traditional markets. Visitors will feel they are in a 19th century market, where old ladies in clothing of the past chew betel. Many people take bunches of bananas and several grapefruits to the market to sell. Banh te (rice cake) is a specialty of the Nua market. Women buy bamboo cylinders at a corner of the market to weave bamboo baskets. Nua is a place to buy good farm equipment. Cattle, poultry and pets are also sold here. A baby rabbit sells for VND70,000 ($3.5). |
