Vietnam’s capital city comes fourth among 25 cities in the world in this year’s Travelers’ Choice Destinations Awards, which is based on millions of reviews.
The popular tourism guide site says the centuries-old city has managed to preserve its old-time charm, through the Old Quarter, Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison.
It says the city, once called Thang Long or “ascending dragon,” is also appealing thanks to many lakes, parks, shady boulevards, and more than 600 temples and pagodas.
Tourists can explore it easily by taxi, it recommends.
Hanoi entered the list for the first time last year, ranking 8th.
The seventh annual awards this year start with Marrakech, a city brimming with markets, gardens, palaces and mosques in Morroco; Cambodia’s Siem Riep which is known for the ruins of Angkor Wat; and Turkey’s Istanbul which is also valued as a place where “breathtaking” ancient architecture coexists with modern restaurants and nightlife.
Other destinations in the list include London, Rome, Paris, New York, Athens, Sydney, Barcelona, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
