Hanoi’s hi-tech hub will have its infrastructure developed under a US$450 million project that broke ground on Friday.
The project, consisting of five contract units, will develop the traffic, telecom, water supply and drainage, and power systems for the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.
Japan’s official assistance development loans account for $400 million of the sum, where the Vietnamese side covers the remaining.
All of the five contract packages will be implemented this year and are slated for completion late 2018, after 37 months of construction.
Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park was established in 1998 as a hub of research and development, personnel training, production and business incubation.
By the end of May 2015, the hi-tech park was home to more than 10,000 engineers and students, with 70 licensed projects with a total registered capital of more than VND56.8 trillion ($2.61 billion).
Hoa Lac focuses on such sectors as software production, information and communications technology, electronics, automatics, among others.
“The infrastructure development is an important condition for Hoa Lac to develop stronger and faster,” Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the groundbreaking ceremony.
The premier tasked the management board of the park and the Ministry of Science and Technology with ensuring the quality and progress of the project.
