VNAT, Mobifone sign agreement to develop tourism
The National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the telecommunications group Mobifone has just signed the cooperative agreement, aiming to boost the potential between the two sides.
The agreement is also to attract international arrivals to Vietnam and help develop domestic tourism sector as well as supply services, destinations, localities in Vietnam via new tourism information portal launched by Mobifone.
The two sides pledged to speed up e-comerce in the local tourism sector in the time ahead.
Mobifone is one of the country’s leading telecommunications companies, providing services for over 40 million subscribers in Vietnam.
Mekong Delta tourism remains unattractive
The Mekong Delta is far less attractive than other parts of the country including the central region in terms of tourism products as the delta lacks diverse products and convenient transportation, said Tran Hoang Linh, director of VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Co. (VietJetAir) in central Vietnam.

Linh told a promotion event for tourism products of Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam provinces and Danang City in Can Tho City last week that he had made a field trip to the Mekong Delta including some sacred sites and realized that street vendors and food selling had become rampant around tourist sites.
Linh said the Mekong Delta lacks interesting stories for its tourist destinations as part of their products. For example, Cam Mountain has many legends such as a snake transforming into a human being and a monk catching a tiger by his hands but these stories have not been fully used to make the popular destination in Tinh Bien District of An Giang Province more attractive.
“We have not made full use of the legends to attract travelers,” Linh said, explaining why the Mekong Delta tourism is less appealing than other parts of the country.
A representative from VITOUR Company said the firm wanted to bring more guests to the Mekong Delta, but tourism products there were not diverse. He called for Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta as a whole to diversify tourism products.
Linh of VietJetAir said that some 54,000 people have taken Danang-Can Tho flights since the air route was launched nearly one year ago but more passengers have traveled from Can Tho City to the central city.
Hoang Truong Chi Giao of the Danang Tourism Promotion Center said apart from existing tourism products, Danang City and Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam provinces have launched many new products this year.
Green tourism week held in Kien Giang
The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang is organising a 2015 Environment-Green Tourism Week from June 30 to July 4.
The event, part of activities in response to the ongoing 2015 Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week in Can Tho city, aims to raise public awareness of protecting the tourism environment and promoting tourism products in combination with sustainable development and environmental conservation.
The week features several events including picture exhibitions, art shows, volunteer campaigns and a mobile cinema surrounding the themes of tourism environmental protection.
Kien Giang has a number of cultural and historical sites, especially the district island of Phu Quoc which is widely considered tourism paradise.-
Mekong Delta: moves to enhance green tourism investments
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has requested Mekong Delta localities make strong moves to attract investment to the region’s green tourism.
An investment promotion meeting in Can Tho city on June 30 drew officials from several ministries and localities, Consul Generals of some countries, and domestic and foreign business representatives.
The Deputy PM said Vietnam boasts great advantages to attract tourism investments such as a stable political situation and community hospitality.
Although the region recorded rapid growth in the tourism sector, the results have yet to reach their expected potential, he noted, adding that number of foreign tourists is still below that of regional countries.
He said to foster tourism investments, the Government, central agencies and localities must ensure the legitimate interests of enterprises and commit to strong administrative procedure reform to improve the economy’s competitiveness.
He also urged them to hold regular dialogues with domestic and foreign businesses to address hindrances and provide optimal conditions for business operations.
Ninh added other necessary efforts to improve Mekong Delta tourism, including creating typical tourist products, developing infrastructure with both State and private funding, boosting inter-provincial coordination, equipping tourism personnel with first-rate skills and encouraging local residents to adopt a more civilised lifestyle.
At the meeting, the State Bank of Vietnam inked credit contracts for two tourism projects in the Phu Quoc Island of Kien Giang province and another project in Phong Dien district of Can Tho.
The event was part of the 2015 Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week, which is underway in Can Tho from June 27 to July 3. The week also includes a fair with 1,030 booths, a food festival and a street festival.
The Mekong Delta region encompasses Can Tho city and the 12 provinces of An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Long An, Soc Trang, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long.
