Low-cost carrier Jetstar Pacific has announced more flights to serve an increasing travel demand during the coming Tet Lunar New Year festival.

The airline will receive three more Airbus 320 aircraft and schedule additional domestic flights from January 22 to March 8.

Two additional flights every day will be added to the Ho Chi Minh City-Tuy Hoa, HCMC-Chu Lai, and Buon Ma Thuot-Vinh services. Routes connecting HCMC with Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Hue, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc will have three or four extra flights.

The HCMC-Hanoi route will have the most extra flights, 12-13 daily, while the service between HCMC and Da Nang will see four to six more flights.

The company’s major shareholders, Vietnam Airlines and Qantas Airways, have recently announced a plan to have a total of 30 Airbus 320 aircraft by 2020.

Airlines have been asking passengers to use self check-in services to avoid overloading at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport during the Tet holidays in February.

Dang Tuan Tu, the airport director, said Tan Son Nhat is already serving above its designed capacity.

The airport is expected to serve around 670 flights every day during the coming Tet, up 10 percent from last year’s holiday season, he said.
