VietNamNet Bridge – Just a few hundred meters from the Ho Dynasty Citadel, a World Heritage site, an ancient house in Tay Giai Village has also been recognized by UNESCO as one of the the top 10 traditional houses in Vietnam.
The house belongs to Mr. Pham Ngoc Tung, 63, a resident in Tay Giai village, Vinh Tien commune, Vinh Loc district, Thanh Hoa province, the 7th generation of the Pham family. The house was built by Tung’s ancestor, a mandarin of the Nguyen Dynasty. The house was built by talented carpenters from Ha Nam and Thanh Hoa provinces.
After over two centuries with many changes, the house is still intact as a testimony of national history.
In 2002, under the program “Preserving traditional houses in Vietnam,” a joint program between the Ministry of Culture – Information of Vietnam and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the ancient house of Mr. Tung was chosen for periodic restoration. The house has been recognized by UNESCO as one of the 10 most beautiful traditional houses in Vietnam.
Mrs. Truong Thi Hoa, 60, Mr. Tung’s wife, said: “Now three generations of my family still live together in the house. We are very happy to welcome thousands of tourists each year.” | |||||||||||||||||||||
