In the journey to discover Son Doong, the “Vietnam Wall” is always mentioned, but it remains a mystery to many. Photographer Ryan Deboodt returned to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in June to capture images of the giant stone wall.

In this set of photos by Ryan Deboodt, some pictures have never been widely publicized, including ones of the fossil skeletons of animals or spiders living in Son Doong cave.

“Vietnam Wall” is part of the rocky faults formed during tectonic processes of the Earth’s crust to create Son Doong cave. This is the end point of the journey to discover the world’s biggest cave and also the huge stone wall stretching hundreds of meters. The highest point of the wall is more than 80m. The average height is from 50-60 m.

On his personal page, Deboodt Ryan said that he shot these photos on a very hot and tired day. “In the past three times in Son Doong, I did not explore the Vietnam Wall and it was impressive. It did not let me down,” Ryan Deboodt wrote. The 32-year-old photographer from Nebraska (USA) noted that in this photo, Ruth, a teammate, is slipping down from a height of 80 m.

Ryan Deboodt is a software expert who has a great passion for photography. In late 2011, Ryan traveled to Vietnam and met with Nguyen Chau A, the founder of Oxalis travel firm, which is assigned to provide tours to Son Doong Cave. Nguyen Chau A called Ryan Deboodt and invited him to explore and take photos of Tu Lan Cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh. Since then Ryan Deboodt has explored and taken photos of many caves in Phong Nha – Ke Bang like Kem, En, Vom, Va and then Son Doong. His photos have been published in many prestigious newspapers around the world.
