Hang Dong is one of the rooftops of Son La province with an altitude of over 2,000 m. The terrain here is like a giant basin, leaning against the range of Ta Xua.
November, when the first northeast monsoon winds cover northern mountainous provinces, is the best time to visit Hang Dong. “The land of heaven” is known as a location for “hunting clouds” in Vietnam.
It is only about 30 km from the center of Bac Yen District, but the road to Hang Dong is rough.
Hang Dong is covered by cloud and haze all year round because the humidity here is very high. Even in the hot summer days, the temperature in Hang Dong is lower than other places in the area by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius.
The most ideal conditions to see the clouds is when the cold air combines with high humidity and a vast valley to make a sea of fantasy clouds. All the necessary and sufficient conditions converge in Hang Dong.
  This is one of the most impressive paths in Hang Dong, running under green cliffs in the valley.    Hang Dong Commune includes four villages.   100% of the population are Black H’ Mong people.  The traditional costumes of the Black H’Mong.  Doing field work and logging in the primary forest of Ta Xua are the two main occupations of the Black H’ Mong ethnic people in Hang Dong. Terrace fields in Son La always ripen very late, usually 1 to 2 months after those in Lao Cai and Yen Bai.  The best time to go to Hang Dong ois from November to the end of March, when the cold air and the humidity are at their peak. |
