Ho Chi Minh City plans to open a tourist support center this December where victims of robberies and rip-offs can seek help.
The new center will operate under the city’s tourism promotion center with the mission of improving service quality and create a safer environment for tourists.
It is located at 140 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, District 3. Tourists can also call the hotline (08) 1087.
Ho Chi Minh City received 4.4 million foreign arrivals last year, more than half of the national figure.
Tourism officials are worried that recent snatch-and-run and rip-off cases may give the city a bad name.
The city police have dealt with more than 120 robbery and snatching complaints from foreign tourists this year.
The latest incident was the knife attack and robbery against a German tourist in the city downtown on October 19.
Officials said they will also open two visitor centers at the parks near Ben Thanh Market and Bach Dang Wharf in District 1 by the end of the year. The centers will open from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will be followed by more in Districts 3 and 5 next year.
